With the forthcoming release of "Carnivore's Oath" I caught up with vocalist Dan Hodgson and here's what he had to say:
You have shared the stage with such greats as "Metallica" and "3 Inches Of Blood". If there is one band/artist past or present you could share a stage with who could it be?
I can think of a lot, but if there’s one, I would have to say Motorhead. To me they symbolize the best things about rock n roll - attitude, volume, honesty and great song's
For the people that haven't heard you before, how would you describe your sound?
We wear our influences on our sleeves for sure. We like to mix the death n’ roll of Entombed, the sludginess of Black Sabbath, the swampiness of Down and the crunchy riffing of early Metallica.
I loved how you had several different genres in your EP. Who has been your influences?
Certainly the bands I listed earlier. Those are probably the most direct influences. We also love 90s bands that emphasized groove like Helmet, Prong, Kyuss and certainly Pantera. The New Orleans scene is also like an alter we bow to. Bands like Eyehategod, Crowbar, Acid Bath. Plus stuff like Orange Goblin, Clutch, Sleep, Danzig. I could go on all day with all the bands who are responsible for shaping our sound.
With the release of the excellent Carnivores Oath what can fans expect of DVD this year and next?
We are shooting a video for the title track in October with Colin MacDonald. He also directed our last video for Smoke Whip. After that we plan on doing some east coast shows and playing some new stuff live.
"Carnivore's Oath" is released on Oct 7th
